There is very little car parking on the New Museums Site itself, though please see Department accessibility.
The nearest car park to the Department is the Grand Arcade Multi-Storey Car Park, previously known as the Lion Yard car park. There is also the Queen Anne Terrace car park in Gonville Place.
Driving in Cambridge is not recommended - narrow picturesque streets were not designed for motorised transport - but there are park and ride schemes on the outskirts of the city.
Some roads in Cambridge, including Silver Street, are closed to traffic by rising bollards
The New Museums Site is a five minute walk from the bus station and a 20-30 minute walk from the railway station. From the bus station, go towards the big John Lewis department store, then go down Downing Street which is at the side of the store. Just past the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Downing Street becomes Pembroke Street and the department is on the right.
From Cambridge railway station, you may choose to walk or get a taxi. If walking, go towards the city centre, past the war memorial and along Hills Road. Hills Road becomes Regent Street and then St Andrews Street. Turn left just before John Lewis and the department is past the Crowne Plaza Hotel, on the right.
When you get here:
From Pembroke Street, go through the arch shown in the first picture below and you will see Museum of Zoology in front of you. It is currently (2014) closed and covered in scaffolding. The Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology is the first building on your left up the steps shown in the second picture.
For drivers of delivery vehicles, if you wish to check that your van will fit through the arch, please see the diagram of arch dimensions.
