Mario Gaimann

Mario Gaimann

DAAD RISE Worldwide Intern

Biography:

Currently pursuing undergraduate studies in materials physics at the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg, Germany, I spent the academic year of 2016/17 abroad with the Erasmus+ programme at the University of York. Having a strong interdisciplinary background, I enjoy working across disciplines and with people from different subject areas.

My internship, which is sponsored by the Research Internships in Science and Technology (RISE) programme of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), matches this interdisciplinary orientation, addressing physics, chemistry as well as engineering. The main topic is the investigation of the dynamics of organic amorphous solids at terahertz frequencies, possibly yielding applications in pharmaceutics. Aims of my work are quantifying the likelihood of structural changes as well as providing experimental data for theory development. Terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS) will be the main method for the investigations.
