Process Systems Engineering: definition
Process Systems Engineering is an interdisciplinary field within Chemical Engineering that generally considers how complex engineering projects should be designed and managed. More specifically, it uses computational techniques for mathematical modelling and simulation, process design, process control, and process optimisation.
Process Systems Engineering group at Cambridge University
The group focuses on the development of algorithms for the solution of large-scale process models as well as in the development of specialized models for general science and technology solutions.
Algorithms developed by members in the group include optimal control and optimisation solvers. Models developed include fouling scheduling optimisation, biochemical reactor systems optimisation, and HIV kinetics and long term infection modelling.
