Fluids and Environment Group

animationWelcome to the website of the Fluids and the Environment Group. The Group is based within the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology, in the University of Cambridge, and is led by Dr Silvana Cardoso.

We work on a broad spectrum of industrial and environmental research projects involving fluid flow, mass and heat transport, chemical kinetics and phase change. Our research approach combines modern mathematical methods, computational modelling and laboratory experiments; these techniques are complementary and provide insight into the underlying physics, the controlling time and length scales, as well as the detailed behaviour of a system. Examples of current work include the engineered storage of carbon dioxide, the effects of natural convection in combustion reactors and the design of efficient chemical catalysts.

The Fluids and the Environment Group falls within the Department's Modelling and Processes research themes.
