Scholarship for Parama Ghoshal
29 October 2012
Ms Parama Ghoshal
Ms Parama Ghoshal received the Dr Manmohan Singh Scholarship during her tenure as an Assistant Professor of Chemical Engineering at Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India. Though she was inclined towards an academic career, she felt it necessary to have an exposure to industrial R&D, which she obtained during her employment with General Electric Global Research Centre at Bangalore for two years. She received her MS degree in Chemical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, India. Her teaching and research interests and experience include fluid mechanics, multiphase flows, process instrumentation and process tomography.
Dr Manmohan Singh Scholarship will enable Ms Parama Ghoshal to pursue her doctoral studies at the University of Cambridge in Chemical Engineering. Without this scholarship, it would have been near impossible for her to obtain the kind of advanced research exposure and training as would be available at the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology of the University of Cambridge. This scholarship ensured the funding as well as admission to the prestigious department.
Her research in the Fluids and Environment Group of the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology would involve evaluation, improvement and innovations of technical solutions for capture and storage of greenhouse gases. The expected research outcome would be technologies for mitigating global warming and environmental deterioration.
Ms Parama Ghoshal believes that her doctoral research in the University of Cambridge would broaden her knowledge in advanced areas of her interest through studies, exposure to academic research methodologies and also through peer interactions. This, in turn would enable her to fulfil her long cherished goal of inspiring young engineers in India through teaching and research guidance.
