Ice Hockey Varsity trophy winners
Cambridge Women's Ice Hockey Team have once again captured the Varsity trophy! The Captain of the team was Sarah Creber, who scored 5 goals in the game, and was named MVP.
SET for BRITAIN
SET for BRITAIN, a major scientific competition and exhibition in Parliament, was held in the House of Commons on 9 March. Paolo Bombelli and Vincent Ho were selected from more than 600 entries to display their posters at the Engineering session.
Research project prize winners
The winners of the prizes for best presentation were Rebecca Conroy and Asad Akhter with their project on Evolving fracture patterns and Michael Norton and Patrick Davies with their work on Convective heat transfer in a rotary kiln.

Distinguished Visiting Fellowship Scheme
Professor Paul Watkinson from the University of British Columbia, Canada, recently spent a month visiting Dr Ian Wilson as part of the Royal Academy of Engineering's Distinguished Visiting Fellowship Scheme and this has just been featured as a case study on the Scheme's web page.

Joint first in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise
The Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology at the University of Cambridge was ranked joint first with Imperial College London in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise.
Visitors from Sri Lanka and Thailand
Professor Hirimburegama, Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka, visited the University and we were also visited by a delegation from BIOTEC (National Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology), Thailand.
European Research Council Advanced Investigator Grant
Dr Alan Tunnacliffe, Reader in Biotechnology at the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology, was recently awarded a prestigious European Research Council (ERC) Advanced Investigator Grant worth €2.5 million.

'Convection without a bang' highlighted in publications of the RSC
Recent work on thermal explosions, conducted in this in the Department, has been highlighted in the magazines Chemical Science and Chemistry World.
We've merged!
The Department of Chemical Engineering and the Institute of Biotechnology have now merged to form a new Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology at the University of Cambridge. The merger was described by the chemical engineer as a Marriage of Love and the wedding reception took the form of a Champagne Lunch in Nevile's Court, Trinity College on 1 August.
