The alumni speaker series was launched on Tuesday 27 October 2009 at the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology, Cambridge by alumnus Peter Davidson, BIS (Business Innovation and Skills).
In his talk 'Innovation, Governance and Capability' Peter described some of the work he has undertaken as Innovation Adviser in Government.
One of the main questions raised was whether there was enough academic representation on corporate Boards and whether institutions were strategically placed to develop capability and innovation to compete at an international level. The audience was very responsive to the topic presented and this inspired a lively discussion which carried on at the networking session.
This first talk in the series was very successful, and set up a great model to follow for future talks. The event was attended by current students and staff as well as alumni from both Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology. At the networking session everyone enjoyed sharing their career experiences and making new connections.
The next talk will be given by Chris McDonald, Corus Research Development and Technology on Friday 27 November 2009.
