Cambridge – China Course on Biomanufacturing

Prof Slater with staff and students at TJAB

Head of Department Prof Nigel Slater recently visited the Tianjin Joint Academy of Biotechnology and Medicine (TJAB) in China to give his CEB IIB lecture module on Manufacturing Principles in Biopharmaceutical Production. The 3-day course was attended by about 30 biotechnology industry practitioners drawn from across China and covered current aspects of biopharmaceutical product development, GMP production and the design of manufacturing facilities. During the visit Nigel was invested as an Honorary Professor of the Tianjin University of Science and Technology and as an Advisor on Biomanufacturing to TJAB and the China Protein Drug Safety Alliance.

Nigel says: “I am extremely grateful to my hosts at TJAB for their hospitality and for a highly constructive and illuminating opportunity to work with biopharmaceutical manufacturing practitioners in China. I also thank the course delegates who participated with enthusiasm, asking many insightful questions and contributing their experience. Whilst in Tianjin I had an opportunity to visit the impressive GMP facility that TJAB is building to make monoclonal antibody clinical trials materials and an impressive new GMP vaccine manufacturing facility. Biomanufacturing is clearly expanding very rapidly in China and I am looking forward to developing new collaborations with TJAB”.
