Professor Clemens Kaminski and Professor Alan Tunnacliffe have been promoted to personal chairs, and Dr Geoff Moggridge has been promoted to a Readership.

Head of Department Professor Nigel Slater said, "These promotions are a mark of outstanding achievement for the individuals concerned and an honour for CEB in which we can all take pride."

The central theme of Professor Clemens Kaminski's research lies in the development and application of modern laser spectroscopic methods to visualise and quantify dynamic chemical processes.

Work in Professor Tunnacliffe's laboratory aims to increase our understanding of anhydrobiosis and to examine possible cell-based applications ("anhydrobiotic engineering").

Dr Geoff Moggridge's group covers a diverse range of projects, where the overarching link between them is the production or utilisation of microstructures for particular application.

The promotions take effect from 1 October 2011.
