Xiao Lin, one of our undergraduate students, appeared on University Challenge, on BBC 2 at 8pm on Monday 1st August 2016. He was part of the Peterhouse team and they were playing against Queens' College in an all-Cambridge episode.
The Peterhouse team got off to a good start, with Xiao Lin answering the first starter for 10 correctly. They answered questions on everything from women's football to microbiology and stayed ahead throughout the contest. Queens' nearly caught up at the end, and the final score was a very close Queens' 150 Peterhouse 160. Quizmaster Jeremy Paxman commented that if they'd gone on for another 5 minutes the result may have been different.
We congratulate the Peterhouse team who now go on to the next round of the competition.
Peterhouse won the last series and a Cambridge College has won for the last three years.
Peterhouse is the oldest of the Cambridge colleges, founded in 1284, and it remains the smallest college in terms of number of Fellows and students.
