Dr Tom Matthams has joined the Department as Academic Secretary. Dr Matthams will lead the administrative service in the newly merged Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology. His portfolio will include overseeing plans for the new building, managing the research grants within the department and assisting academics with new applications, and providing strategic support to the Head of Department, Professor Gladden.
Dr Matthams has joined the Department from the Academic Division in the Old Schools. He was responsible for financial planning and resources, and has worked on staff, student and estate needs across the University. In particular, he was heavily involved with the development of the University Resource Allocation Model (RAM). Prior to the working in the Old Schools, Dr Matthams was an academic in the Dept Materials Science and Metallurgy, where his research focussed on the mechanical properties of composite materials.
Dr Matthams has an office in both Pembroke Street and Tennis Court Road sites and would welcome the opportunity to meet as many members of the Department as soon as possible.
