Grace Yow and Alex Routh
The ACS Colloid and surface science symposium is a 4 day meeting held annually in June to look at all aspects of colloid science. The topics covered ranged from fluid mechanics to particle synthesis and manipulation.
Grace's talk discussed her PhD project of encapsulation of enzymes in colloidosomes. These particles are 20 micron water droplets surrounded by colloidal particles that have been sintered to produce a continuous polymer shell. Grace's project will incorporate responsive polymers into the shell to enable user defined mass transfer into the droplets. To date dye release studies have examined the effect of production method on the shell permeability and mechanical strength.
