Cleaning
We clean the entire building; offices, lecture rooms, labs and corridors. Some cleaning is on a daily basis, other areas require less frequent attention. We empty all waste paper bins, but do not deal with hazardous waste. We wipe the boards in lecture rooms every hour in term time.
Refreshments
There is a kitchen and snack bar in the Shell Social Room, from which we provide tea, coffee, soft drinks and snacks for staff, students and visitors. Tea is free, other things may be purchased. Opening times are:

Water from the tap is generally not drinkable because it comes from a tank in the roof. Only the kitchen tap is mains water and so drinkable. There are water coolers in the basement, near the Workshop and outside Lecture Theatre 1.
We can also provide refreshments such as coffee and biscuits or buffet lunches for meetings and seminars and we organise the cakes before departmental seminars.
Laundry
In addition to domestic laundry such as towels and tea towels for the kitchen, we also provide a lab coat cleaning service. To use this you should
Put your initials in the back.
Place the lab coat in the basket in the basement corridor of the Shell building (between stores & workshop) before 5pm Wednesday.
Coats are collected on Thursday at 9am and returned a week later at the same time.
There is no charge for this service.
Health and Safety
Members of the team also assist in maintaining Health and Safety in the Department by checking electrical equipment and being Fire Wardens.
