Investing in the future

A new home

The merger of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology in July 2008 highlighted the urgent need for a single building that will eventually house all our undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and research activities under the same roof.

Plans for a new home to our merged Department are under way. A feasibility study for New Building Project at the West Cambridge site was completed in Summer 2009. EMBS (University Estate Management and Building Service) have now appointed a team from leading architects BDP to take the project forward to a full case.

The artist's impression shown gives you a picture of what our future building could look like. We are aiming for an energy-efficient, purpose-designed building that fulfils the vision of our new department to facilitate our teaching and research activities.

The Department’s future depends on the goodwill, expertise, generosity and engagement of those who subscribe to its values and remain committed to its future.

Over the course of 2011 the Department has been working with CUDO on a New Building case for support. Key alumni have joined a Fundraising Committee helping CEB on an advisory role. The fundraising campaign is expected to start in full swing towards the end of this year or beginnings of 2012.

CEB will be approaching  potential sponsors with a robust case in the near future. For further information please contact Professor Nigel Slater, Head of Department, on nkhs2@cam.ac.uk
