Stores

Introduction:

The Stores has several roles. I hold stocks of items commonly required by the Department and process requisitions for goods and services from suppliers within and outside the University on behalf of budget holders.

I also loan out tools etc. I do keep a list of all items lent out so if you borrow an item from Stores please return it when you have finished with it.

Opening hours:

The Stores is normally open at the following times:

Monday-Wednesday 07:45-13:00 & 14:00-16:30

Thursday-Friday 07:45-13:00 & 14:00-16:15

Occasionally it is necessary to close for brief periods, for example, when accepting Gas deliveries.

Purchasing:

Some days Stores can place up to 20 orders (as well as my other duties) so any assistance you can give in ensuring that the information on the form is correct is very much appreciated. Please complete the form legibly and ensure that the price you enter is the unit price – not the total price. Please also ensure that you fill out the account code details at the bottom

Order books are in triplicate and are available from Stores. You should retain the pink copy and take the white and yellow copies to Stores. When an order number is obtained the yellow copy will be returned to you for your reference.

Collecting goods:

Goods are available to collect at any time during the day. Overnight, however, for security reasons any uncollected parcels will be locked away. If you have collected an order, received a service, or had an item delivered directly to you, bypassing Stores, please pass the delivery/ packing note to Stores so that there is a record of its receipt.

Goods out:

Overseas items are sent out via DHL from reception. All other items can be sent from Stores via INITIAL CITYLINK. In both cases an order needs to be raised first.

Standard charges for INITIAL CITYLINK are £7.50 for next day delivery (up to 17:30) up to 10Kg after which they charge per kilo. DHL charges vary.

Other services:

In addition to the general stock list I also supply Gas cylinders. Gases held in stock include Nitrogen, Air, Argon, Oxygen, Carbon Dioxide, Helium, Methane and Hydrogen. If you no longer require a cylinder, please let Stores know and I will arrange for it to be collected thus saving the rental costs per month. As well as the initial charge, rental of the cylinders is charged daily and current charges are between 15p and 23p per cylinder per day. Rental ceases when you notify me of the return of the cylinder.

I have a comprehensive range of catalogues for you to browse through and borrow.

Toolboxes (complete with a selection of tools) are available to hire for a £50 deposit (refundable on return in good condition).

And finally, I have a small selection of second hand items from decommissioned rigs (fittings, gauges etc.).

Although I cannot guarantee to always have the answer, I will endeavour to help you with your Stores related queries.
