Oscillatory flow reactors offer a number of advantages over conventional reactors. The flow patterns in a baffled tube operating at oscillating conditions show a high extent of radial mixing as seen in Figure 1 below, which can be used e.g. to control the residence time distribution in a tube or enhance the contacting of immiscible phases.
