Markus obtained his M.Sc. in Chemistry from the University of Leipzig. For his PhD studies he moved to the Max Planck Institut für Kohlenforschung in Mülheim an der Ruhr. There his work was focused on studies and characterisation of reactive intermediates during homogenously catalysed reactions by in situ NMR spectroscopy. After obtaining his PhD from the University of Cologne, he joined the MRRC in April 2016, where he is working on new NMR techniques towards a better understanding of liquid phase heterogeneous catalysis. His main project will combine total neutron scattering and medium field NMR to obtain new insights into catalytic processes.
