Institute of Biotechnology (now part of CEB) alumnus Adnan Iqbal has won a Study UK USA Alumni Award in Business and Innovation.

He has been recognized for his work as co-founder & CEO of Luma Health, a company that is building a platform that helps to simplify interactions between patients & providers in the United States. His company has secured over $160 million in funding to develop its system, aiming to streamline healthcare access for patients.

Adnan credits much to his time at Cambridge, saying;

"My time studying at the Institute of Biotechnology not only helped catalyse my first venture, but equipped me with the clear focus to build a healthcare company of impact and consequence."

Adnan joined us back in 2007 and studied for an MPhil in Bioscience Enterprise at what was then the Institute of Biotechnology, based on Tennis Court Road. He found there was much to gain by being based right in the centre of Cambridge, saying;

"Being able to immerse myself in all of the innovation and discovery at the Institute of Biotechnology, as well as the surrounding Cambridge biotech cluster was a truly unique experience.  To be yards away from The Eagle, where Watson and Crick [announced their discovery of] DNA was a daily source of energy and inspiration."
