The research students invited all members of the department to come to work dressed up in any type of costume and to pay £1 to enter the competition for best costume. All money raised went to CamFed, a Cambridge-based charity dedicated to extending girls' access to education in Africa.

The picture shows the finalists in the competition and from these, the winner was Eloise Barnes, on the right, dressed as Noddy, and the runner up was Raino Hansen, second from the left, wearing a student outfit from the chemical engineers' student union at Helsinki University of Technology.
