New Professorships Awarded

It was announced on 24 November 1999 that Lynn Gladden, Allan Hayhurst and Malcolm Mackley have been promoted to Personal Professorships from 1 October 1999. Many, many congratulations to all three of them. This is a remarkable achievement for the Department as we obtained 3 out of a total of only 28 such promotions this year.

The photograph above shows Professor Allan Hayhurst (left) and Professor Malcolm Mackley at a small celebration held in their honour. Unfortunately, Professor Lynn Gladden was unable to attend due to a previous engagement, but a day or two later, I did manage to get all three together:
