The winners of this year's prize for the best undergraduate design project presentation were Andrew Lowson, Csaba Katai, Beth Jones, Kaichen Gu and Jenny Parkin.

The Design Project is a major part of the coursework for Chemical Engineering students in their third year at Cambridge and this year, the project was supported by Mondelez International, who are the owners of the coffee brands Carte Noire, Jacobs, Kenco and Tassimo. The brief was to design a process to produce 3,000 tonnes per annum of freeze dried instant coffee from a feedstock consisting of a mixture of green Arabica and Robusta coffee beans.

Second prize: Mohsina Sultana Bashir, Anqi Huang, Matthew Chadwick and Kert Pütsepp
In groups of 6, they have just devoted five weeks to designing this plant. They handed in their reports on Thursday, 5 June 2014 and gave their 10 minute presentations on the process on Friday, 6 June 2014.

Third prize
The guest judge was Simon Fox, Associate Director for coffee process technology at Mondelez International. He congratulated all the groups on their designs and then presented the winners with a huge chocolate hamper to share between them. Two groups of runners up were each given a smaller hamper.
