BBSRC DTP Targeted Studentship

BBSRC DTP Targeted Studentship
‘Industrial Biotechnology in low resource areas for low cost disease diagnostics'

Applications are invited to apply for a BBSRC DTP funded studentship (Home/EU Fees and studentship grant) to embark on research towards a PhD.  The project will develop simple, affordable, near-patient diagnostic tests that can be produced in low resource countries to diagnose infectious diseases. The key emphasis of the research will be to overcome the high cost of materials in low income countries by developing local industrial biotechnology processes to produce the required material and then innovative, locally relevant, manufacturing methods to create the diagnostic devices. The student will join Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology with collaborators in Institute for Manufacturing and Department of Medicine of the University of Cambridge as well as collaborators in Ghana, Malaysia and the Philippines.

Applications must be received by 7th December 2018.  Further information and details of eligibility can be obtained from Prof Lisa Hall.
