CURRENT MEMBERS

Dr Laura Torrente is a Chemical Engineer with expertise in reaction engineering and catalysis. Her research is mainly focused on the development of manufacturing technologies for the large-scale synthesis of nanoparticles and structured materials, the integration of processes and the development of novel catalytic routes for sustainable technologies.

She is a EPSRC Early Career Fellow and a member of the UK Manufacturing Forum.   

Post docs

 Dr Zhigang Hu joined the group in 2017 as a Research Associated working on the development of catalytic materials for the low temperature decomposition of ammonia as hydrogen vector.

 He has a PhD degree from the National University of Singapore (NUS).

Dr Bruno Pinho joined the group in 2017 as a Postdoctoral Research Associate. His research is focused on the development of an automated manufacturing technology for the synthesis of metal nanoparticles with in-situ analysis.

 

HermeGarcia

Dr Hermenegildo Garcia Baldovi joined the group in 2017 as a Research Associate. His project is in collaboration with Prof John Dennis (CEB), Dr Boeis and Dr Scott (Engineering). His research is focused on the development of efficient photocatalytic materials.

MauroMalizia

Dr Mauro Malizia joined the group in 2017 as a Research Associate. His project is in collaboration with Prof John Dennis (CEB), Dr Boeis and Dr Scott (Engineering). His research is focused on the development and characterisation of materials for photo-electrochemical sustainable processes.

Post-graduate students

Tamsin Bell joined the group in 2014 as a PhD student. Tamsin is a trained chemist. Her project explores the use of nanostructured alumina materials for the stabilisation of metal nanoparticles on catalytic applications. Her project is partially funded by SASOL.
SukanyaDatta2 Sukanya Datta joined the group in 2016 as a PhD student associated to the NanoCDT.  Her research is focused on the development of materials in deep eutectic solvents and their application in catalysis. She studied Chemistry in Inidia and completed a Master in nanoscience in India and France.
Julien Mahin Julien Mahin joined the group in 2017 as a PhD student. His research is focused on the development of flow reactors for the synthesis of iron nanoparticles with tuneable sizes. He has a Master degree in Chemistry by the Universit Catholique de Louvain (Belgium).
Yunfei Li Song joined the group in 2017 as a PhD student. His project involves the continuous synthesis of photo-active (e.g. quantum dots) materials with high luminescence. He has a Master degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Cambridge.

Yunhu Gao joined the group in 2017 as PhD student. His project involves the mechanistic understanding of gold nanoparticles and the development of flow systems for their synthesis in flow with controllable sizes in the absence of organic capping ligands. He has a Master degree in Chemical Engineering by Tsinghua University (China).

FORMER MEMBERS

Nancy Perez Corona joined the group in 2018 as a MPhil student. She was working on the treatment of hydrocarbons for enhanced combustion in engines. She was co-supervised by Prof Geoff Moggridge.

Dr Ebenezer Annan was a visitor academic for 6 months in 2018 as part of the Cambridge-Africa partnership for Research Excellence (CAPREX). In collaboration with Dr Michael De Volder, we worked together in the development of a novel system for the removal of fluoride from water.

He is a lecturer at the University of Ghana.

Dr Kejun Wu was a Research Associate in 2016-2017, working on the development of manufacturing technologies for the large-scale production of metal nanoparticles using microdevices. 

Since 2018, he is a lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University.

Yinan Yu was a MPhil student in 2017 working on the synthesis of gold nanoparticles with controllable sizes.

He is now a PhD student at Purdue University under the supervision of Prof. Jeffrey Greeley

Deborah Assuquo was a MPhil student in 2017 working on the treatment of hydrocarbons for enhanced combustion in engines. She was co-supervised by Prof Geoff Moggridge.

HugoLara

Hugo Lara was a visiting PhD student from UNAM, Mexico in 2016 for 6 months working on the development of materials for catalytic applications.   

CallumLytton

Callum Lytton was a Research Assistant in 2016 after having graduated from the University of Bath with a MEng in Chemical Engineering. 

Dr Alf HillPhD student at the University of Bath (2011 - 2014)

Thesis title: Development of low temperature catalysts for an integrated ammonia PEM fuel cell

In 2014, Alf joined Atkins Ltd as a Process Engineer, before becoming a lecturer in 2016 at the University of Bath.

Dr Simon Bishopp - PhD student at the University of Bath (2010 - 2014) and PDRA (2014)

Thesis title: Process alternatives for the continuous conversion of bio-derived feedstocks

Since 2014, Simon is a Researcher at Shell, Amsterdam   

 

Dr Alex Gilbank - PhD student at the University of Bath (2010 - 2014)

Thesis title: Ceramic Nanostructured Catalysts

Since 2014, Alex is a Life Actuarial Trainee at Zurich Insurance plc

 

Dr Rebecca Bamford - PhD student at the University of Bath (2010 - 2015)

Since 2015, Rebecca is a KTP Associate at the University of Strathclyde
