Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship and Newton Trust matching funding scheme

Please see our guidance for this year’s Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship and Newton Trust matching funding scheme. Please note the department deadline for the receipt of applications and references is 24:00 (Midnight) on Sunday 3 January 2022. Candidates should have engaged with a host supervisor at CEB prior to submitting a proposal within the department.

As in previous years, the Newton Trust is running a competition for its matching funding scheme for those who wish to apply for a Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellowship in the 2021 round. The Newton Trust competition requires the Department to assess applications and undertake a ranking exercise, so candidates will need to submit their applications to the Department.

The Newton Trust has provided further information for what is required by way of application documents and references on its website.

More information about the Leverhulme ECF scheme, including important details about eligibility and the amount of funding available, can be found on its website.

Applications and references should be sent straight to  Any applications received after this time will not be able to be considered, owing to the tight turnaround between this deadline and when shortlisted applications have to be forwarded by the Department to the Newton Trust. The documents required are:

  • a cover sheet
  • a brief c.v. (not exceeding two sides), and
  • a draft of the three items required for the Leverhulme application:
  1. a list of your major publications (maximum one side)
  2. a statement of your current research (maximum 250 words) and
  3. a detailed statement of your proposed research (maximum two sides)

Applicants and the Department will be informed of the outcome of the Newton Trust competition in good time to apply for the Leverhulme award.  Successful applicants who are then able to make an application for the Leverhulme award will be advised of the Department and University internal deadlines to allow for their application to be checked before submitting to the Leverhulme Trust by the national deadline of 24 February 2022 at 16:00.
