Modelling

Mathematical modelling and simulation allow us to transfer our results to industrial scales and industrial conditions.  Most of the work undertaken in the above strands is supported by modelling activity, particularly of material flows and heat transfer.  Other projects have focussed on developing new modelling techniques.  Examples include the simulation-led design of a new baking oven concept, optimisation of drug treatment for HIV, flow pulsing in narrow ducts, soil mechanics simulations of moving pastes and heat transfer in rotary kilns.  This work is supported by David Scott's expertise in applied mathematics.
