Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology

Francesca van Tartwijk is currently a PhD student in the Laser Analytics Group of the University of Cambridge. She previously received a BA and MSci in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge (Queens’ College), and an MRes in Sensor Technologies and Applications (University of Cambridge, Queens’ College) as part of the EPSRC Sensor CDT programme.

Francesca is conducting her PhD research under the supervision of Professor Clemens Kaminski in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology.  Her research focuses on the effect of Fused in sarcoma ('FUS’) phase transition on local protein synthesis in axon termini and the implication for neurodegeneration. For this, she uses Xenopus laevis as a model organism.
