Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology

Michael Fletcher graduation

Michael Fletcher has been awarded one of this year's Graduate prizes from The Salters' Institute of Industrial Chemistry and he will receive his award at a lunch ceremony at the Salters' Hall (London) in early December.

Each year, the Salters' Institute invites every UK department of Chemistry or Chemical Engineering to nominate one final year undergraduate. The selectors are looking for candidates who will ultimately be able to occupy leading positions in the UK chemical industry.

Michael, who completed his Chemical Engineering MEng course this summer commented: 'I was delighted to receive CEB’s nomination for the Salters’ Graduate Award, and I am thrilled to be an award recipient! My time at CEB has been immensely challenging, yet rewarding – the versatile nature of the degree has given me an in-depth and broad understanding of Chemical Engineering as a discipline, whilst enhancing my soft skills too. I have no doubt this experience will be invaluable as I start my career at Procter & Gamble as a Graduate Chemical Engineer/Associate Scientist. I would like to thank Dr Kamran Yunus and Professor Andy Sederman for the nomination and supporting my application, as well as my family and friends for their unwavering support over the past four years.'

Salters' candidates are expected to show certain strengths: passion, skills and motivation to lead and shape the UK chemical sectors, ability to communicate and motivate others, knowledge of the current chemical industry and the need for future innovation, along with a willingness and ability to participate in the Institute’s activities and join our network of future leaders. Michael is an excellent example of the type of graduate that we aim to produce at CEB. Last year he was also a mentor for year 10-12 students in UK schools taking part in the main department outreach intitiative, the annual Davidson Inventors Challenge.
