In current FDG operation, an alternative method is required for determining the clearance between the FDG nozzle and the sample substrate before conducting measuremnts. An integrated FDG (iFDG) was developed by embedding an inductive proximity sensor in the FDG nozzle head to allow the distance between the head and the layer, and an underlying metal substrate, to be determined simultaneously.
